Design Wall for Week 21

This is a picture of my machine!  To find out WHY I am ticked off at my machine - and WHY I have a picture of it posted here - (Look toward the bottom of the post - under Quilts!)
http://momslifeupsidedown.blogspot.com/2013/05/waiwo-monday-and-its-memorial.html

At this point I am NOT sure what I am going to do.  Teaching the machine to fly is an option - BUT not necessarily one that is good and certainly not one that I will do!

That being said......  This is what I HOPE to get done this week....

BINDINGS
Fancy Flowers Placemats - old picture.
Two are completely done, one needs the seam ripper on the binding.
Two to go - and I have a sick machine!  Ugh!

 MACHINE QUILTING

Peggy's Picnic Tablecloth - I STILL haven't done this - am determined though!
Debating - how I want to do this!

HAND PIECING

Hexie flowers - old picture - I have more made - just not enough! (are there ever enough?)
I TRY to do one audio disc worth an evening.

PIECING

Sunny Side Up quilt - am doing this one scrappy - and LOVE the colors!
Anxious to start - but need to finish  up the blasted bindings
first - and get the machine WORKING again too!

Back to Square One - needs the April and may blocks THIS week!
Am just a tad behind!

STUDIES

I am WAYYyyy behind on this.  Have this week to either catch up - or start over keeping track! which I can do since this is a self-designed course and something I WANT to do!  Math I want to review and eventually work my way through calculus.  Russian I truly want to be able to converse with some of my neighbours (Spanish and Arabic too for that matter - but one language at a time - can do more than one at a time - BUT it is a matter of TIME!)  Botany I want to do since I am gardening and remember virtually zilch of my schooling!  Social Studies - I really want to do this - am having a VERY hard time getting a lap book done - which is a sort of review of everything I'm learning - not because it's hard "has to be perfect" way of thinking - instead of "good enough" and "get 'er done"  So am considering THAT one to have a dual purpose - one being studies of the earth's past - and the other - to learn to "tame" that Perfection required way of thinking to a realistic level!  Religion I want to go through and re-learn - because obviously - I am NOT that observant - but need to review WHERE I am, WHAT I believe, and work on my level of belief as well as stepping out of my comfort zone and proceeding one step further.

As for yesterday I didn't spend a lot of time on my studies - and really need to work on these today.  Will re-align my studies for the rest of the week tonight

    QUILT

Yesterday I decided to machine quilt my bindings.  After having removed all the bindings sewn on the FRONT of the placemats, I moved and pinned the bindings to the BACK of the placemats. And then proceeded to TRY to sew them on.  The blasted machine wouldn't feed!  Muttering a few words, I checked the feed dogs.  Were they down?  So I clicked them.  Nope.  And went to put them back up again.  They wouldn't move!  So remembering that the machine re-sets itself to default, I turned the machine OFF again and on and checked.  STILL wouldn't feed.  So muttering MORE words (I have an extensive vocabulary in this area - social work does that to you!) I removed the thread plate screws and the thread plate, bobbin case - and OH MY!  Then grabbed (quickly, mind  you!) the lint brush and removed all that mess (WHERE did it all come from?)  Really cleaned that lint out of there - then put the thing back together again - aligning the bobbin case arrow with the dot on my machine (this is a mistake - I know!).  Put the whole thing together again, tightening the screws, and tried to sew.  Not only would it NOT feed (yes - I had thread) but now it had a real snarl of thread caught under the threadplate - where I couldn't get it!

So I CALMLY (hahaha!) take that blasted - uh - the thread plate OFF, check alignment (AGAIN!) on bobbin and move SLIGHTLY off center (this has a marking that is NOT to be trusted!).  Pray!
Put it back together again! Pray!
    Put the screws in.  Pray!
TEST on scrap piece of cloth I don't want (has to be a don't want because if this doesn't work - I will cut it into a million pieces!!!!)
    Pray!

This whole routine went on for something like an hour.  Threadplate ON, threadplate OFF and my face kept getting redder and redder.  Honestly - if the window had been open, my machine would have had to learn to fly!

Other than that - continue slicing and dicing.  Get fabrics all sliced and diced for next step in quilting.
Spend NO MORE than an hour on straightening/slicing/dicing!

CALMLY sew Hexie flowers for an audio disc
I can't do the bindings that way since I took them all off and was in the process of doing them by machine (grrrrr!)

Tame the frustrated monster by doing rip-its (gently, gently) to any project needing that!

    QUILT

Silly machine won't feed!  Sooooooo - I checked feed dogs - turned out feed dogs were up - and when I checked they went down - and would not go back up.  So I turned machine off (all settings return to default) and back on - feed dogs were back up - still wouldn't feed!  So I unscrewed both screws and cleaned that mess out - Egads there was a lot of lint in there!  didn't think it would be THAT bad!  Got that cleaned - and put it back together - matching arrow to dot on bobbin case.  Unfortunately that must have had a major human error - it WON'T work - snarls all threads! (which I didn't find out until AFTER I put those dadgummed screws back in the plate again!)  I must have gone back and forth taking those stupid screws out and putting them back in - and STILL not fixing the problem for over an hour before I gave up and just went to slice and dice mode!  I am so ready to sit and cry - which of course won't fix the bindings, sew the fabrics or get this stupid machine back to working again!

which I don't have (actually don't have enough of ANY golds and
yellows to do this - and I've GOT to use up some of my stash!)

    Saturday, May 04, 2013

WOW! That was fast! It's Saturday and the weekend already!!!!!

Man!  This past week has just zipped by - like on rollerskates!  (Speaking of which - I would LOVE to do this again - but family says NO - broken bones are expensive!  Hmmmm!)

The picture concern - apparently I need to empty my cache - and lose all my bookmarks in the process!  Let's see.....   pictures.. bookmarks!   pictures.. bookmarks!   You know - this is a TOUGH choice!  Sure wish the cache was just on here!!! and would have NO effect on my bookmarks!  OR that I could save all my bookmarks (honest - I've save LOTS more in the past- on a notebook too!) and still had pictures!  Have to think on this - plus my brilliant son who does a lot of things with computers may visit today!  hopefully!

As to what happened on my To Do list - I went inside, sat down - and that was that until after it was dark -at which time I got up, ate, and went back to bed!  I also answered a phone call (explained in next paragraph below)

Friday - I had recieved a request to substitute for high school physics - which I did - but didn't enjoy as much as I have the middle school.  I have SOOOOOO many rants about our public school system and non-ability to allow the students to accept responsibility for their actions!  I did manage to have them complete the work that was SUPPOSED to be turned in first thing in the morning (only 3 kids out of ALL 5 classes of 24 kids per class had actually done it!!!!!)  I gave them 20 minutes - and told them, when they started chitter chattering that the ONLY person allowed to talk in there was ME!  When the kids answered the lab sheets (answers on the same lab sheet page as the questions - all they had to do was FIND the answer and write it down!  Geesh!  Rocket science???  Not on MY rocket, thank you!) they were told to pick up the next handout papers and work on that one and that there were questions at the end that would have to be handed in.  (True - but they actually had until next TUESDAY!  I just didn't say when.  And NO ONE thought to ask until right before the bell - most kids done anyway - again answers in the handout - just copy them down!)

And my son and daughter and any of the other kids who came and stayed awhile would all agree - DON'T get Mom started on the public school system!
