Dumb machine may be fixed!  But that doesn't mean I did a lot of anything on it!
Do I know why?  Ummm - not really!  Slept a LOT this week - considering up and coming tests and potential surgery - yeah - may be safe to say that if I'm not depressed, then I sure am NOT a happy camper - and, of course, this has affected everything!  House, quilting .... you name it!

Re what's in the future this week?  Umm - will know more by Fri - and until then I have got a LOT of sewing to do!  Esp. before midnight Monday! (end of 3rd quarter!)

Friday - Whew! I Made It!!!! Yahoo!!! WAIWO 09-27-13

Stanley Park - isn't it pretty?
Sure wish MY gardens looked this lovely - or really, this extensive!
After several days of intended and unintended pure sloth (up until 730 PM last night when I found myself invaded by gremlins that INSISTED I get my bunions to work!) - I find myself with a mountain of STUFF to do before Sunday rolls around again - and .... it's FRIDAY!  Which means it is supposed to be done TODAY!

That being said - I'll go with what I can and see how I do.  After all, that really is all one can do - true?  (Sure hope so or I'm in worse trouble than I otherwise thought!)

I decided to focus on slacks first since that is what prompted me that I REALLY REALLY need to do this.  I've lost some weight (more than enough) - and suspenders MIGHT help hold them on - or maybe a belt cinched really tight!  But the overall effect is U_G_L_Y!!!!
          • Jeans - These I MIGHT take in - but more probably will spend some $$$ and get new!  I don't like the style of many of these!  I want STRAIGHT cut that fits on my waist!
          • Slacks - black/gray/navy/Dark brown/dark green (maybe)/purple or maroon (maybe) - 5 or 6 total needed - that FIT! Late Fall/Winter/very early spring wardrobe
            • finish sewing 1
            • take in/mend/restyle - whatever all I have (4 max) - and several DEFINITELY need mending!

Tuesday... Snoozeday.....NOT! BUSY day instead!!!! WAIWO 09-24-13

My Widget kitty - otherwise known as Mr. Wuss, Mr. Scared and Run Away kitty -
because that is what he does when anyone else other than me is around!
Actually he is a sweetie and a lovey bug and just loves to be held and gently hugged!
This is his favorite spot - underneath my sewing machine desk!
I had thought of doing a whole bunch of things yesterday (and the day before - and the one before that!)  Changed my mind rather rapidly when I stood up and tried to walk!  TRY is the key word there - left leg didn't want to cooperate - and OMG the pain!  One woulda thought a mac truck had parked on my back and run back and forth across it several times.  Only thing to do (only thing I COULD do) - SLEEP!

So I did!    Woke up and felt AND heard a humongous POP!  Now I can walk again!  Aren't moveable joints fun????  (NOT!)

Anyway - am up and moving around today and have a mountain of stuff to do.  Already the dishes are in the dw, kitchen has been straightened, linen stripped from the bed (a hopeful weekly happening!), laundry has been going (washer and the dryer that I thought was DONE - it wasn't!), bathroom swished and swashed, meds sorted, called the pharmacy to reorder 1 med I will be out of next week, breakfast fixed (I REALLY need to make some salsa, I do - Spanish omelet is NOT the same without it!) and I'm sitting here with my tea and my omelet.

Now - do I WANT to work so hard I mess up my back again?  Nyet!  DEFINITELY don't want that!  So I will do what I can, go sew or more probably dehydrate some of the tomatoes I picked last weekend - yup - lost 2 already :(  - and get those going (along with the peppers, etc.), then go back to cleaning, and when I finish working on dehydrating stuff - head to the sewing machine :) and get that baby quilt backing extended and pinned on.  Goal is to get as much done as I can - and nap when I can't!  Essentially!

Due to my NEEDING (desperately) new clothes, I am adding sewing back in again - and limiting that to one area only.  Also I have several swaps/QOVs and various other projects - hmmm - one at a time!

ALMOST done were the 2 machine quilt items - those will be done FIRST this week!

AND I definitely have some waiting time (yay for Hexies!) this week as well!

              MACHINE QUILTING
Baby quilt #1 - back needs to be extended THEN quilted - easy peasy quilting!

I'm linking up with Judy L's http://www.patchworktimes.com/2013/09/23/design-wall-september-23-2013/.  Go there to see all the truly lovely quilts!

Today IS Sunday! WAIWO for 09-22-13

Hmm - one day after Fall whatever (equinox?)  and it is officially FALL!  Am I ready?  Of course not!  I mean - why break a perfect record and have house, wardrobe, garden, and - well - everything all up to date and DONE!

On another note - I couldn't go and do even if I wanted to (which I don't!) - my back and joints ache like tomorrow is so done and forgotten that it will be next year before it is remembered!  Ouch!  And as for moving - well, picture me moving a half inch an hour!  I mean, even snails move faster than I do!  Serious!  I saw a snail (I'm lying here!) and decided to go from here to there - and by the time I got halfway to the there, the snail was not only at the goal line, but had gone home, cleaned house, cooked dinner for all the little snails, and was sitting around with all the little great grandchildren snails!

              Anyway - I'm SLOW today!

Because I REALLY hurt (and am using a cane - which helps, BTW) and have had a long nap and about ready to retire for evening now - I did not get a lot of much done!  Would have been nice - however - that's the way the cookie crumbled!

              GO AND DO

Used This Month: 2.5 yard for September
Used Year to Date: 22.58  yds.

                Added This Week: 0 yards
Added This Month: 0 yards for September
Added Year to Date: 35.59 yards

Net Used for 2013:- 13.01 yards

ALMOST finished 2 more - but - needed to extend the backing on one and the other needs more batting!  Oh well!  Those will go on next week's!

                Alycia's QOV Big Block Drive

I'm participating this year.  And will be counting stash used/added as I finish each week's group of 10 blocks. (others do it differently - I like to think in terms of 10 blocks - not so overwhelming to me!)

This doesn't show all 10 of the blocks - but there ARE 10 -
despite my wanting to turn the number into 12 or more - there ARE 10!

Am debating whether or not the next group of 10 should be of the same fabrics/patterns (as in I do have more of the starred fabric left) or whether I might go with one of the other suggestions!  Anyway - this is this week's (not counting the one block that was still in my machine at the time and has since been finished!)

Now thinking in terms of sending these 10 off or waiting until the end of next week to send off 20 at a time!

                It's DONE! Placemat finish!

Hmmm - this is silly!  I had made 5 placemats - Fancy Flowers.  FOUR of them I finished - and sent on to Wendy.  Did that some time ago - I think it was in April or May.  Not sure - and can't find ANY mention of them.  COULD have been even June!  Same thing!

Regardless - the 5th placemat (center table runner) was lacking about 2 inches of enough binding - and there was NO MORE OF THAT FABRIC!!!!  Panic!  So this is why I did them separately.  But I found some ALMOST the same dark green fabric and I finished and machine bound (because I wasn't nearly as exacting!) this last Fri eve.  I also have a picture of that one - not of the others!

Difficulty is when I go to update my stash report - I can find NO mention ANYWHERE from Jan to now of having finished ANY of them!  Ugh!  So am posting this (AND a UFO finish!) separately today.  Because apparently I didn't post anything ANYWHERE on any of them before now!  I hate it when I get stupid like that!

Figure this at 2 yards - and I'm sure there is more there!

WHEW! Finally! It's Saturday again!!!! WAIWO 09-21-13

Big Blocks for Big Block Drive (Alycia's QOV Big Block Drive) - FIRST installment!
Needs only one more stripe on 3 of them and trimming for them to be done -
would then be 12 instead of 10 (either short term memory is shot! or I can't count!)
Aaack!  That would be 9 instead of the 12 I mentioned - and for sure I can't count!
(Personally I was a LOT happier when I thought I would have 12 ready!)

Stash Report for Week 37 - dumb machine!!!

Honestly!  I am so sick and tired of this machine having problems!  It's A GREAT machine - WHEN it works right!  The problems are that  (1) AFTER cleaning around the bobbin/shuttlecock, etc. - it will NOT work right for me - no matter how many times I take it apart (it has screws to undo and redo every time), (2) the directions show a piece on my machine that I DON'T have, never did have, nor was supposed to have!  So - uh - what gives with that?

At this point I am writing to the main company.  This should NOT be that hard!  Seriously!

Still - at this point, I will go back to what I said BEFORE this machine - I WANT A TREADLE SEWING MACHINE - year about 1900 or 1910!  Seriously!  Those things NEVER wear out!  True - the belt DOES go now and then - more a then than now - and mostly it's a matter of being stretched - which is easy to fix - and should be!  AND many if not most of the parts are still available!  Plus they are set up so the OWNER can fix them easily!  These modern primadonnas take specialists!  And then STILL don't work right, break at the drop of a hat!  Nope - give me a treadle ANY day! (Of course, I still want my modern primadonna too!)  Besides I miss being able to sew ANY time I want to - even when no electric is available like in the winter! (Of course, sewing is not my main priority then - WARM is!)

                Design Wall for Week 36 - 09-09-13

This seems like a lot - and probably it is... however....

Re the Back to Square One - I am NOT caught up.  I AM working on it - do hope to get caught up this month - one step each week.

Also - re the Hurricane Sandy Quilt - it has been on my blog for EONS - and STILL isn't finished.  Maybe it's time is not now.  So - setting that one aside - and moving on.....

                BOM Mystery
(I still have to take another picture - updated - forgot last week - oops!)
this week will show step 5 completed.  I did work on step 6 - but had to take it all apart again! :(  For some reason square in a square - although a very easy patch - is hard for me to do accurately!

Baby Quilt #1.  I think I may do this one in a straight grid with the walking foot.

Sampler blocks to be completed and sent

Big Bird - can have  other pieces added to him - sort of a crazy quilt that will probably drive ME crazy before it's done!

Reds used for Bowdacious Four Patch.  This is my leader-ender.  I am not sure whether I have enough 4 patches or not - Wendy and I have been doing swaps back and forth -= and she has done a humongous bunch of them!

                My Sewing Room UPDATE!

                Sorry about the sideways view!
Cabinet is made up of 2 smaller 3 drawer cabinets stacked one on top of the other
                and is used for strips - 3.5, 2.5, 2.0,  1.5, 1.0.
Strips in each drawer (sized by width) are divided into light and dark.

Another 2 sideways views!  Sorry!  We will ignore the mending (to the left of the strip cabinet and right of the shelving!). Shelving is 6' tall, 30" deep, and each shelving unit is approximately 4 - 5 foot wide. Yardage is  subdivided by main color, refolded so it will stack uniformly - that is on the LEFT side of each shelf.  On the right is yardage that I use for sewing (IF and WHEN I get around to it!) and it is mostly just folded!  Plastic bins hold FQ of that color.  Repros share the shelf with the browns and beiges, with homespun, holiday, patriotic fabrics below that on the left and flannels on the right.  On the very top of the shelves I keep holiday ornaments, keepsake storage, trims - each in its own bins and labeled.

Here you can get a better idea of the blues shelf.  Below that are the orange and yellow fabrics and FQs, as well as the black and gray fabrics and FQs and yardage for sewing.  Bins for block units (3.5, 2.5, 2.0, 1.5 - light and dark sit on top of the  FQ bins.

Cutting table has my magazine holder which I use to hold patterns as well as non-hangable plastic templates.  The green thing lieing flat on the table is an old 3-drawer cabinet lid that I re-purposed with the addition of felt fabric and packing tape into a mini-design wall.  It works.

This closet is actually only 9 - 12 inches deep - so I use it for plastic template rulers (hangable), storage (above) and as a place to store my machine cart-a-long.

Even my door gets used a lot!  Here I hang my most used rulers as well as a listing of my UFOs, machine threading  instructions, and a copy of  my to-do list

My machine desk - complete with the strips I have GOT to turn into 4 patches this week and send on their way.  Flimsies sit in bins under the desk on the left (blond spot is my Widget kitty!)  In the black bag is my son and dil's wedding quilt which I need to do the final quilting and binding on - they celebrated their first anniversary last Saturday.

More UFOs (other ufos on bottom shelves of the big fabric shelves).  Also books.  Small drawers are for sewing tools - ie, measuring tapes, scissors and slicers, etc.  Videos were gifted to me by a friend who knew I liked to watch quilting movies.

My work basket - is supposed to have ONLY the things in it that actually are on the design wall for the week.  Supposedly!
Yup - Birthday month!  Time for a sewing room update - and more yet - to CLEAN the sewing room!

(that is clean it more than the usual run the dustmop and duster over everything!)

I belong to a Stashbusters group - and decided to do pix of my sewing room along with a report on my stash - birthday update!  First I decided to pick up a little in there - you know - 15 minutes of pick up...........

4.5 HOURS later I was able to take pictures!  MOST of it had been straight - but the parts that weren't more than made up for lost time!

And I STILL have a humongous box under my cutting table with fabric scraps in bags that are color coded - for the most part.  Scraps are to be sliced and diced into strips, blocks or used as strings or even crumbs.  What's left goes in one of the 3 Nestle Quik boxes sitting on my sewing table and goes to a lady who uses them as stuffing for doggie beds.
