It's FRIDAY! YAY!

Nathan and Lynn - just after the ceremony!  Sherry - Lynn's mom in the background and Heather - Lynn's sister straightening Lynn's gown.  Best man - Mike Toth

Outside of the fact that I'm  more than a bit nervous re preparing tomorrow night's dinner for not only my son and Lynn but also part of her family - I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone again!  AND - as usual - I THOUGHT I had all of my supplies - but discovered I was out of potatoes - son and dil volunteered to pick up the potatoes (for baking).

I thought I had everything else all taken care of - had planned on having Passover Cheese pancakes which are very yummy! - but discovered that while I had remembered the cream cheese, I am out of the cottage cheese!  Ordinarily no problem - but this is the END of the month - and everything is on the tightest budget until next month!  No matter - I made Matzo Brie (another favorite!) instead!  SOoooooooooo easy!  Just matzos, water to cover for TWO minutes (no more or you get a soggy mess!  Trust me, I KNOW!), drained, one beaten egg per matzo (I used 2 matzos, therefore 2 eggs beaten well), mix and fry.  So - what's so hard about that?  Tastes great!  Fattening - yes - especially when I added some of the cream cheese on top and had cooked it in butter! (You can use jelly, honey, cinnamon and sugar as toppings as well).  Between that and one of my 40 million cups of tea per day - and I'm rolling out the door!

Today's schedule - hmm - well, because I'm GREAT at sidetracking - and I got overly involved in what I was doing (layout for my lapbook project) I didn't get a lot of else done!  today I get to do ALL the rest of it!

Other Reads
Now we come to my text books!
Basic Judaism - a review over basic tenets - this quarter I'm reviewing holidays, etc. and level of celebration  Currently studying Pesach or Passover.
The Jewish Woman and her Home (Goldin) , Jewish Holidays and Festivals (Edidin), 40 Things You can do to save the Jewish People (Grishaver), This Is My God (Herman Wouk), It's a Mitzvah (), How to Run a Traditional Jewish Household (Greenberg), The Songs We Sing

Botany - both from an evolutionary standpoint as well as from an overall review of types, etc.
The Private Life of Plants (Attenborough), The Evolution of Plants and Flowers (Thomas), Botany Coloring Book (P. Young), Science Scope (Stout) and any lectures online I can find  This WAS going to be a 3 month study - however it will run longer.  No problem!

Social studies - history - sort of in depth.  Currently readings in/on archaeology. The ATlas of Archaeology (Taylor), Guides to History Plus (Stout), and some other info that I  used when teaching my kids.
I'll be starting (next week) the unit on Pre-Cambrian history - both on the Archaean and Proterozoic eras - and will be using several other books then as well which I will list next week.

Math - A review of basic algebra (my goal is to take calculus - but it has been soooooooooo many years!) I'm currently using Saxon Math.  However I will have to order in the next 2 courses in math - those books were part of those that were ruined

Beginning Russian - I'm using the Power Glide language course which I like A LOT!  I also have 2 other beginning Russian books should this course appear to go too fast! So far - at one lesson a week - I'm on lesson 7 - will be going to lesson 8

Creative Writing - ummm am using the Writing Strands level 3 - which is ok for instructing kids - HOWEVER....  But then as my daughter puts it - it IS practice and that's what counts!  I'm more than halfway through that book at present.  and yes, upon completion of level 3 - I DO have level 4.

Handwriting - something I do periodically - that is, if I want to read my own writing!!!  I'm working on Italics Now!

Spelling -
working on some of the rest of the 12,000 most frequently mispelled words. (Schools teach ONLY 4300 AT MOST! and based on the high school kids I teach - schools don't teach it well!)  I'm using Spelling Power - which WORKS!

I could probably add in exercise - which until gardening season happens means I don't get enough!  Currently am using both exercises dil showed me - takes about 10-15 minutes, plus going to the gym (Planet Earth) to work on strength training and bicycling on rainy days as well

Flimsy done - but I doubt I will actually have time to quilt it - well, that and get the sorbet and the cake roll made!  Boiling eggs now!

LOL - I showed the finished flimsy to my son - and he is claiming credit for it (he is the person who decided on the outside border!) - besides he like this one!  So - I may have to make another one for me - this one will go to Lynn and Nathan (if Lynn likes it!)

So far today - I exercised (stationary bike), went to the library and returned 6- 4 of which I had read TWO weeks ago - Geesh!  I wish I remembered titles!  Story plot - oh yeah.  Titles - um, No! Then I checked out 10, forgot 3 I have here at home waiting to go in which will necessitate another trip to the library (during open hours, of course!)  I also went to the post office, sat in front of the computer, picked up 2 BIG boxes of VHS tapes that someone had advertised on Freecycle (out of maybe 50 tapes, I only had 8 - these are seriously GOOD movies!) and tried to convince myself I REALLY NEED a cup of hot chocolate!

As for quilting - uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.  Anyway - I'm home now (and back on the computer!)  Will post - soon - next rest break a picture of fabrics I'm using for Passover table runner.  There wasn't any Navy in what I had - BUT I think it will look nice!  Hopefully!

Table runner is sliced and diced - a couple of minor changes including one i DON/T want to make

I feel ill - going to bed

And it's Another.....Flimsy Finish!!!!

I wonder if I can count this one twice?  The first time I did this with white sashing - and the blocks looked sallow and boring.

So THIS time I used a brilliant RED!

What am I talking about???  My Valentine Day Table Runner, of course!
Here's the table runner!  Top left small block is an embroidered heart (I shoulda taken another picture!)
5 of these were hearts from friends and I made the other 3 myself)

Oops!  This is what happens when you aren't paying attention to what you are doing!  To make matters worse - I decided to make the OTHER half of the hearts several weeks later.  Came up with the exact same side! :(
However, all's well that ends well - there are 6 small hearts (and 2 halves that are in my heart "bank") and all of them are DONE DONE DONE!

Well, they're done with exception of the final quilting!

LEADER-ENDER

Bonnie H's Bow-da-cious!!!  I have more pieced together - just no picture - YET!

 PIECING
Back to Square One Mystery quilt.  You can see how far I've NOT gotten!

An early Valentine table runner - started in January - and ready for Valentine's day - NEXT year!  Needs sashing and sewing together for flimsy to be finished!

Wendy's QOV - needs borders and I think sashing (can't remember) and sewing together.

Tequila Buzz - which I re-named Arizona Skies (colors match, don't they!)  Needs blocks sewn together, and work on the fancy pieced borders!  One of my UFOs.

NEW QUILT PROJECT!  Because I finished 2 old quilts (and then some!)  96 miles an Hour by I think Kim Brackett with directions in her book.  Takes 16 FQ medium and dark (OK - so I'm REALLY stretching the medium concept here!) and 16 FQ (which will be white).  I don't have ALL the fabrics here - and yes, I know I have several golds - same intensity.  I DON'T think I will have enough of each individual one - but will have to "scrappy" it!  Yes, it's a sampler!

And there is another table runner that HAS to be finished this week - probably following one of the rather quick table runners in a book - Runnermania.  This quilt will also have a holiday theme - and is for Passover.  Not sure of all the colors - but am thinking of strong and deep reds, golds, with a spice of navy in there and a lovely floral with all those colors.  Now to see if I have ANY of those colors! (Other than the gold which I KNOW I have!)

And that's it for the week (and then some!)  A lot is finishing up - BUT I have 2 new projects in there - the 96 miles an hour and the Passover table runner!  And that will remove 4 credits from the quilts I've finished up!

Added Year to Date: 30.59 yards

Net Used for 2012: - 24.16 yards

Well, at least I'm decreasing the negative amount somewhat!

FLIMSY FINISH!!!!! YAY!!!

I had all the borders on early this  morning - and took a pleased look at it - when I noticed that about half of the blocks were turned in the wrong direction - totally messing up the secondary pattern!  (Teaches me something about sewing well past when I'm tired anyway!)

So - a big session with the seam ripper, taking everything on the  messed up portion apart, then the sewing machine - and sewing it up the way it is supposed to be - and...............

Here it is!!!!

Christmas Ribbons - a Flimsy Finish!

Another view of Christmas Ribbons!
